The Kitchen

Three cooks, one rule: nothing until it works three times

Flourish started as a shared document between three people who kept sending each other the same dinner notes. It is still basically that — a place to write down what actually worked, in the order you'd do it.

How a recipe gets here

Nothing is published the week it is invented. It is cooked, rewritten, cooked again by someone who did not write it, and only then typed up — which is why the method reads like a person, not a manual.

The techniques we test against →
  1. 01

    Idea

One of us wants a dish and cannot find one that behaves the way we expect.

  2. 02

    First three

Cooked three times in a home kitchen, with the failures written down too.

  3. 03

    The stranger test

Someone who did not write it cooks it from the page alone, saying nothing.

  4. 04

    Publication

Typed up with the note we wish we'd been given, then sent out on Sunday.
